AWS GameKit Is Here: Online Gaming Will Never Be the Same
“There is nothing more serious than a game,” said a wise old man. And that’s exactly how it is, especially in the twenty-first century, in the age of “gaming“. For years, the video game industry has also become a business and is currently one of the most buzzing sectors in the field of technology and entertainment. Thousands of video games have been designed, with the most diverse features and for the most disparate systems, and new ideas still continue to emerge.
AWS GameKit
“Game developers are embracing the digital transformation of the industry and looking to improve gaming experiences more and more,” reads a note from
Amazon Web Service
on the occasion of the launch of
AWS for Games
, the extension of its Cloud Computing service specifically geared towards game developers.
But what is it? These are open-source integration toolkits for game developers who want to build cloud-connected gaming capabilities. In addition, Amazon Web Services announced that AWS GameKit now supports Android, iOS , and macOS games developed with
Unreal Engine
.
The initiative includes
Amazon GameSparks
, a service that makes it easy to build, optimize , and scale back-end services and features for online or cloud-based games. And then there’s AWS GameKit, an open-source solution that promises to help game developers deploy and customize game back-end functionality directly from a game engine. AWS GameKit includes a complete solution for every game function and a design based on the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
AWS for Games solutions simplify the way gaming customers use AWS, making it easier to select the right tools for their desired use cases and reduce the amount of resources and investments required to adopt the cloud and achieve faster time to value.
“Developers prefer to build fun and innovative games that delight players ,” AWS said instead of spending time and effort managing infrastructure. They need servers that can scale with tens of millions of players around the world at the lowest possible cost. In addition, they need to optimize player lifetime with databases that can process terabytes to petabytes of ever-changing data, analytics solutions that can access that data with millisecond latency, and machine learning that can translate insights into new gameplay”.
But how does it work? What can I do? First, there is the opportunity to create unique identities for each gamer and verify them, allow players to access the game and manage their sessions. In addition, you can manage your goals. Then, you can create and track the rewards earned by the players.
Another very important thing is to save the state of the game in the Cloud. A synchronized copy of gamers’ game progress can be kept in the Cloud to allow players to resume gameplay between sessions.
The Cloud giant makes it known that AWS for Games “Accelerate deployments across all solution areas by connecting developers with industry-leading AWS partners such as Amd, AppsFlyer, Beamable, Databricks, Epic Games, Incredibuild, Nvidia, Parsec, Perforce, Slalom, Snowflake, and Teradici; as well as dedicated AWS industry specialists and AWS Professional Service teamss”.
Finally, there is a double thread that inextricably binds video games and artificial intelligence. They are a training ground for machine learning algorithms and fertile ground for their application. Artificial intelligence is part of the essence of video games. “Cloud adoption has transformed the way games are created, delivered, and played,” said Bill Vass, Vice President, AWS Engineering. “Game developers continue to accelerate their journey to the Cloud, create games faster and run them with continuous updates, while increasing their player base and engagement in the game. With the launch of AWS for Games , customers can accelerate this transformation with solutions that address workloads with the highest priority and continue to push the boundaries in areas such as game analytics, real-time operations, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.”
